4-6 treatments every 2-4 weeks apart are recommended during the corrective stage. Once desired results are achieved, maintenance treatments are recommended every 1-2 months.
Recovery Time: No downtime. (Downtime is referring to visible exfoliation (peeling), redness, or dryness of the skin, a side effect of a chemical peel, and must be considered if a patient has any events or commitments in the immediate future after receiving a chemical peel. Different types of peels have a range of no downtime to extended downtime. Some patients do not experience any downtime, which is ok and doesn’t mean the peel isn’t working.)
Anticipated reactions and other considerations: During the peel, tingling, itching, burning, and warmth may be felt, but are mild and brief. A fan may be used to minimize discomfort. Rarely, patients will have dry, flaking skin for 1-2 days.
Contraindications: Active herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated, wounded or sunburned skin in the area to be treated, excessively sensitive skin, allergies to any components of the treatment, women who are currently pregnant or lactating, skin conditions such as dermatitis or inflammatory rosacea, those who have taken Accutane within the last year, and those that have a history of radiation therapy in the area to be treated.
